As summer quickly approaches, we will be seeing an influx of those pesky creatures…. Mosquito’s! Here at Sunsational Home Improvement, we can sympathize with you, we don’t like them much either. We have done some research of our own to see how you can help keep them at bay this summer.
You don’t want to be spending an exuberant amount of money on a store-bought repellent when you can make your own at home. Mix together one chopped onion, one head of garlic, four cups of water, 4 teaspoons of cayenne pepper and one tablespoon of liquid dish soap to create a homemade repellent. Spray it around your patio, not on yourself, and sit back and enjoy your evening on your patio rather than getting eaten alive by mosquito’s.
Do you worry about the chemicals that are in the store-bought mosquito repellents? Try using repellants that contain the oil of lemon eucalyptus. It has a long-lasting effect and you do not have to worry about spraying yourself or your children down with chemicals that could be harmful.
We all know the smell of citronella candles, and we all know that they do not smell the best. Keep your egg cartons and coffee trays because they can work just as well. In a safe location, light them on fire then blow them out, letting them smolder. The burning smell they produce will help repel the mosquito’s.
If you didn’t know already, mosquito’s are attracted to standing water. To eliminate more mosquito’s, check your rain gutters, tarps, planters and pots, open trash cans or buckets, and bird baths for standing water that may be attracting the mosquito’s to your yard. Once you get rid of the standing water you will see a decrease in the number of mosquito’s.
